A few days before this show I was contacted saying that I was approved for a photo pass. The night had the standard first three no flash but we had to shoot from the soundboard, lucky for me it was advance notice and I was able to rent the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Sport. This was the first time shooting with the lens but I was very happy with the results.

First up was Bahari. The band did not move around much during their set and the lighting was the worst of the three bands. About halfway into the second song I really started notice the weight of the Sigma Sport. The lens weighs in at over six pounds. I did bring a mono pod for the event but it was easier not to use it between people still being seated and fans with hands and cell phones raised taking pictures.

The second band for the night was Joe Jonas’s new band DNCE who also consists of Jack Lawless, Cole Whittle, and JinJoo Lee. The band had a lot of energy and were moving around making it a lot of fun to shoot. The lighting was great and changed throughout the first three songs.

Selena Gomez did not disappoint from a photographers perspective. She had great lighting for all three songs and did a costume change in-between each one. The only complaint was the over use of fans to blow her hair around.

With the lighting being great overall for the night my camera settings for the night stayed very consistent. ISO was between 6000-6400, ƒ/ 6.3-7.1. and shutter speed was between 1/400-1/500. Even with the 600mm zoom on the lens I did have to do some cropping on most of the pictures (mostly due to a stray hand, head, or phone in the frame).
