Monday night Lindsey Stirling played Saint Louis Music Park in Maryland Heights, MO.
Stirling who made it to the quarter finals on America’s Got Talent in 2010 but did not make the cut and was told that she would not be able to fill a large venue without being in a band or having a singer. Thirteen years later with six albums, numerous tours and an autobiography under her belt she has proven them all wrong.
Every time I have seen Lindsey Stirling she changes something with the show to keep fans wanting more. Last Time I saw her she she was lifted into the air with the wire rigging and played upside down while spinning. This time around she brought back the trapeze work and in some lyra (aerial hoop). At first she did the lyra was without playing the violin but the second time she hung upside down while playing. Stirling engages the fans several times telling stories or about how she learned to play classical music but hasn’t really played any in the past ten years so she has been practicing and played ‘Toccata and Fugue’ by Johann Sebastian Bach and then halfway into the song she put her own spin on it. During a “musical break” a guy dressed in an old-time clown outfit came out with a small dog dressed in a ballerina outfit performed a few tricks before Stirling came back on stage in a new outfit and brought out Sarah Blackwood of Walk Off the Earth to perform ‘Hold My Heart’ with her. Shortly after the song Stirling . disappeared for a bit and her dancers came out with a glass box on a cart and put a cover over it spun it around a bit and then pulled it off and Stirling was in the box playing. Before ‘Crystallize ‘ while doing a costume change a prerecorded message about how she was reading a study done by scientist Dr. Masaru Emoto who studied the crystallization of water. He discovered that if negative things were said to these little vials of water, these crystals were these jagged shapes but in positive environments where good things were being spoken to it, the crystals came out beautiful. During ‘Don’t Let This Feeling Fade’ she brought out Gianni Luminati from Walk Off the Earth to sing Rivers Cuomo’s part of the song. Before ending the night she thanked Walk Off the Earth and told the crowd that they have been doing this from back in the days of YouTube so it was nice going out on tour with some of the other grandparents of YouTube and now you kids out there with your Tick Tocks. The night ended with a cover of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Kashmir.
