Wednesday night Senses Fail & Saves The Day brought their coheadline New Jersey vs. The World tour to The Pageant in St. Louis. Both New Jersey bands are out on tour playing their breakout albums, Let It Enfold You for Senses Fail and Through Being Cool by Saves the Day.
I still remember the first time I listened to Through Being Cool. Back when bands had message boards, I was on the North Ireland band Ash’s message board just about every night for hours on end chatting with fans about various things. One night I was talking with a girl from California named Katrina about what what we were listening to recently. I was really into Orange Rhyming Dictionary and Four Cornered Night by Jets to Brazil. She told me to look up Saves the Day and more specifically their album Through Being Cool. So I did what most music lovers did back in the early and jumped on a file sharing program and downloaded the album (I did go out and buy it soon after like most things I downloaded). From that point I was hooked. So once I heard that Saves the Day were going on tour and playing the album from front to back I had to go. From the opening of ‘All-Star Me‘ it seemed like I was transported back to 2000 listening to the album. Even after almost twenty-five years the album still sounds great and front man and only original member Chris Conley still sound great live.
Senses Fail kicked things off with the opening track ‘Tie Her Down‘. Near the halfway point in the album front man Dan Marsala of local band Story of the Year came out on stage and had some back and forth banter with James “Buddy” Nielsen before the band played ‘Rum Is for Drinking, Not for Burning‘. After the band was finished playing the album they came back for a four song encore that included a cover of ‘Helena‘ with members of both bands.
