Sunday night Japanese experimental band Boris brought their Amplifier Worship tour to Delmar Hall in St. Louis.

Boris is a band that does not like to be associated with any one style but are often categorized as sludge metal, drone, noise, psychedelia, and minimalism, they are also without a doubt one of the loudest bands that I have seen live and put my earplugs to work.

A Boris concert is kind of like a religious experience. Atsuo entered the smoke filled stage dressed in all black. Occasionally he would play his drum kit that was positioned facing guest drummer Muchio. Takeshi with his double necked bass/guitar adding to the layers while Wata on guitar, who is in a bright red dress that is a stark contrast to the otherwise dark stage and attire, is their to melt your face with her guitar playing while standing in front of her wall of Orange aps. The band played Amplifier Worship in its entirety along with two songs off of Archive I (initially known as Scott Slimm Presents: Boris Archive) in the middle of the set and closed out the night with Loveless‘ off of the 2020 album ‘NO‘.
