Friday night the self-identified “Kentucky Fried Queerdos” Grlwood were in town at Red Flag.

Mia Morris (who is also the drummer in GRLwood) opened the show. Morris is an alt-pop singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has released over 40 original songs, and has opened for Collective Soul and Candlebox back in 2023. Morris plays a kick drum and a snare drum that is positioned behind her with her feet. She also uses a loop pedal and has fans participate on a couple songs including the closing song ‘fu2‘ by having fans say fuck you into her mic.

GRLwood opened with ‘Clean‘ off 2018’s Daddy. After a handful of songs front woman Rej Forester said that this would be the last of the pretty songs and went into ‘Communicate With Me‘. After that the rest of the set consisted of the more punkish or what the band calls “scream-pop” songs. Before playing ‘I Hate My Mom‘ Forester tells the crowd that her mom didn’t talk to her for around three years after it came out. After ‘I’m Yer Dad’ Forester says most people don’t realize that ‘Nice Guy‘ is basically the same song as ‘I’m Yer Dad’ but slowed down and the words are changed. Forester decided even though the band had not rehearsed the next song that the crowd deserved it and played ‘Wet‘. Before playing the last song of the night Forester told the crowd that she had good news and bad news. The bad news was that this would be the last song and no encore. She said some crowds get angry that they dont play an encore. The good news was that the last song was one of her favorite songs and kicked into a punkish cover of ‘WAP‘ by Cardi B. After the show Forester ran right off the stage and to the merch booth to talk with fans.
