Thursday night the legendary Misfits guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein was in town with his band Doyle and co-headliners OTEP at Red Flag. L.A. base Red Devil Vortex is also on tour with them.
By the time Doyle took the stage the fans were pumped and ready to go. Flanked on both sides of drummer Luke Wright were three double stacks of amps with Doyle’s visage painted on them. The band kicked things off with ‘Abominator‘ and ‘Beast Like Me‘. Lead singer Alex “Wolfman” Story told the crowd that the next song is “Sort of a love song, you can dance to it if you want,” its also about sex in a cemetery before ripping into ‘Cemetery Sex’. Story would tell the crowd just about every other song was sort of a love song. Nearly every song to every other song Doyle had to switch out guitars from his nonstop thrashing and pummeling. A few times during the set a mosh pit would start up but only a few hardcore fans would try and keep it up as most of the crowd was fixated on the bands performance. Sometime around the songs ‘Kiss Me As We Die’ and ‘DreamingDeadGirls’ Story climbed to the top of one of the stacks of speakers and sang before coming back down and going into the crowd for ‘WITCHCRAFT‘. The night ended with ‘Land of the Dead’.
If you get the chance to catch Doyle live I would do so. Here is a list of the remaining shows on this tour:
