Sunday night Jenny Lewis brought her Joy’all Ball Tour to The Pageant in support of her latest LP, Joy’all. The album was released last year with several of the songs being written while Lewis participated in a virtual songwriting workshop that was hosted by singer Beck.

Like many who grew up in the 80’s my introduction to Jenny Lewis was in the cult classic films Troop Beverly Hills and The Wizard back in 1989. It would not be till 2002 while reading an article in Under the Radar about Rilo Kiley around the time of The Execution of All Things that I would be introduced to Jenny Lewis as a musician.

Lewis and her all-female band took the stage and opened with ‘The Big Guns‘ off 2006’s Rabbit Fur Coat and into “Psychos” off Joy’all. After the 3rd song Lewis raised a beer saying hears to you all and thanked the crowd for skipping the Oscars to come to the show before jumping into ‘She’s Not Me‘. Around the middle of the set Lewis talked briefly about her first solo album Rabbit Fur Coat turning eighteen this year. Saying she’s old enough to vote but not drink yet and we just dusted this one off and played ‘You Are What You Love‘ and ‘Rise Up With Fists!!‘Near the end of the set a cover of ‘Lust for Life‘ by San Francisco indie rock band Girls. The main set ended with large red balloons falling from the ceiling during the rocking ‘See Fernando’, the only song in the set off 2008’s Acid Tongue. The three song encore started off with a cover of ‘Silver Lining‘ by her former band Rilo Kiley and was accompanied by opener Hayden Pedigo on guitar, and ended with ‘Just One of the Guys‘ and ‘Love Feel‘.
