Friday night Dominic Harrison better know by his stage name YUNGBLUD brought his YUNGBLUD: World Tour to St. Louis Music Park.
As the lights went down a silhouette of YUNGBLUD came up on the screen at the back of the stage that sprouted horns and then wings before coming out running full speed onto the stage kicking the night off with ‘21st Century Liability’ and then worked his way through ‘The Funeral’ and ‘Tissues’ both from his 2022 album YUNGBLUD.
After getting the crowd warmed up YUNGBLUD asked the crowd “Did anyone get treated like shit today, did anyone wake up anxious today, well we are going to get rid of it. Open up the pit”, as he pointed at the center of the crowd before playing ‘weird!’ off the album with the same name.
Every couple songs YUNGBLUD engages with his fans. At one point he tells them “St. Louis you make me silly. Every time I am in St. Louis I do stupid shit.”, though he never tells them what he did, before playing ‘strawberry lipstick’. Then again before ‘fleabag’ he said “My agent said don’t come to St. Louis this time we will do it next time. I said fuck off I love St Louis and will play here every time we come to America.” During ‘fleabag’ YUNGBLUd held out his mic and the fans sang the chorus “I’m just a fleabag. Nobody loves me. Send me to rehab. Somebody touch me”.
Around the midway point of the night YUNGBLUD said ‘This is the part of the set that I bring someone up on stage.’ and brought a fan whose name was Cortez up on stage and had a screaming match between Cortez and the fans. Whoever won got to pick the next song to be played for the night. The choices were ‘California’ and ‘Doctor Doctor’. Cortez won first round then crowd won the second round. After the second round he saw a fan dressed as an astronaut and asked “is that a fucking astronaut?” and had the fan brought up closer to the stage. Cortez ended up winning and chose ‘California’.
You can tell YUNGBLUD has a connection with his fans with the way he interacts with them throughout. Several times he tells them his fans are like his family and that one thing that happens at every YUNGBLUD show is that you go away with at least two new friends. He then has the fans say “Hello Mother Fucker” to someone to their left and right. He notices a few younger fans in the crowd and says ‘I know we have some younger fans in the crowd but it’s ok to say this at a YUNGBLUD show’ then pointed out two younger fans sitting on someone’s shoulders ‘You can’t say this at school’, with both young fans shaking their heads no.
Nearing the end of the night YUNGBLUD told the crowd that this is the part of the night that you and I sing along. 21st Century Liability is five years old now. He asked the fans to pull out their cell phones and hold them in the air and then started to sing the chorus to ‘I Want It That Way’ by the Backstreet Boys. I think he didn’t expect them to keep singing it for the full chorus but it stopped with him singing “I want it three way”. This led into the song an acoustic version of ‘Kill Sombody’. Near the end of the song he told the crowd that he wrote the album six years ago when he was completely lost and then asked the fans to scream the chorus “All I wanna do is kill somebody, Kill somebody, kill somebody like you”.
The main set ended with ‘I Think I’m OKAY’, a song that he put out with Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker. Of course YUNGBLUD did not stay away for long and came back for a two song encore that consisted of ‘Loner’ and his latest song ‘Lowlife’.
