Wednesday night Rival Sons played the Pageant on their ‘Darkfighter’ tour. ‘Darkfighter’ is the bands seventh album and was just reliesed on June 2nd.
First up was LA’s Starcrawler, fronted by singer Arrow de Wilde. The band kicked things off with a one two punch of ‘Goodtime Girl’ and ‘Roadkill’. Several people say that de Wilde reminds them of Mick Jagger but to me it’s a bit Jagger and a lot of Iggy Pop the way she whips furiously around the stage barely ever standing still. Before the third song de Wilde addressed the crowd saying it was good to be here and that it was their first time in St. Louis. I thought to myself I am sure they were here last hear at Off Broadway as I had thought about going and had a look after the set and sure enough they were here back in August.
The Black Angles
Rival Sons who formed in Long Beach, California, in 2009 but is now loosely based in Nashville, Tennessee started the night off with ‘Mirrors’ off their new album and spent most the night playing songs off it and their sixth album ‘Feral Roots’ but still played at least one song from every album under their belts. Their eighth album ‘Lightbringer’ is also just around the corner and is planned to be relieved later this year. Lead singer Jay Buchanan visually reminded me a bit of Jim Morrison but with a vocal range of Chris Cornel especially on the closer of the night ‘Keep On Swinging’.
